- TRE (tension & trauma releasing exercises | Ehbodywork
Tension and Trauma releasing exercises (TRE) are a set of exercises that stimulate the bodies natural tremor mechanism. The tremors regulate the nervous system by releasing stress patterns from the body and mind. Stimulates the vagus nerve. TRE WHAT IS TRE? Read More SESSION INFO Read More BENEFITS Read More What is TRE? TRE stands for tension and trauma release exercises. TRE is a series of 7 simple exercises that activate the bodies natural tremoring mechanism. The tremors calm the nervous system and allow the body to release long held patterns of tension, stress and trauma. Mammals will involuntarily shake after a stressful event to release the protective and defensive patterns of fight, flight and freeze. Although mammalian, the human brain tends to suppress this instinct as the mind has been conditioned to view shaking as a sign of weakness. TRE reconnects us with this innate natural bodily reflex. This video gives a good explanation of TRE. Benefits of TRE Improved Sleep Increased Energy Improved mood Reduced pain Better concentration Improved digestion Feeling more grounded and at ease with yourself, others and the environment. TRE was designed by Dr David Berceli. He has worked with people across the world in war zones and places affected by natural disaster in the area of stress reduction, trauma intervention, and recovery training. Find out more on the TRE Website. TRE WEBSITE What a TRE session looks like Sessions flow through 4 parts and usually last 60-90 minutes Grounding A simple practice to come into connection with the body and the present. Feeling and listening to the bodies sensations is the backbone of TRE. Exercises We move through 7 exercises that gently fatigue and stretch the muscles of the lower body. These may be adapted for different needs. Tremors The exercises naturally evoke the tremors and we spend 15-20 minutes allow the tremors to move through the body. Integration Like a shavasana, we allow the body to be still and process how it is feeling. BOOKINGS GET IN TOUCH 1:1 SESSIONS In person and online. About Hello, I'm Ellie I am a Sports and Clinical Massage Therapist with 15 years experience. I love working with people to help them feel better in their bodies. I specialise in working with chronic pain and stress. About Me I graduated from Leeds University in 2004 with a degree in sports science. From there, I worked in youth development engaging young people in sport, exercise and wellbeing. It was apparent that existing physical and mental health would significantly impact how individuals engaged in physical activity, despite the best intentions and information. In 2010 I signed up to a Swedish massage course at the weekends as I was simply interested in things that make us feel good. 15 years later massage and somatic therapy is my career. By feeling into the whole body as opposed to mentally trying to control and fix we can get to know our patterns, interrupt them and adopt new ones that move both body and mind towards health. I think massage can have a place for everyone. In the simplest terms, touch soothes and calms. It can return you to your para sympathetic nervous system, the part of your nervous system that cues healing, growth and connection. Yes we need movement and strengthening to adapt the tissues but we also need rest and recovery. In my experience of working with others and my own chronic pain, getting the balance between stimulus and recovery is key. Each and every one of us have unique lives, personalities and patterns of pain. Communication of needs is key and I like to work with people to develop exercises or practices that you can realistically incorporate into daily life. Change comes when we can consistently adopt a new behaviour without it overwhelm. Small but steady adaptations add up to significant change if we can actually stick with them. I am fully insured and a member of the SMA and TRE.
